New District SecretariesI regret to inform the membership of the Far Western District that Dick Girvin has resigned his position as District Secretary. Due to family obligations Dick is no longer able to attend Board meetings, an important requirement of the job. In Dick's place, the Board has appointed Past President Peter Feeney to be our District Secretary until such time as a successor is elected. I am happy to report, however, that Dick has agreed to assume the newly created position of Corresponding Secretary. In this position Dick will continue to attend to the many administrative matters for the District in the very capable way that he has for years. I am grateful that Dick has agreed to accept this new position and we hope to continue to benefit from his wisdom and experience for many years.

Coaching offer to Registered QuartetsOn behalf of the AFWDC, Association of Far Western District Champions, I want you to know that we have a one time, no fee, coaching session available to you by a District Champion in your area. There is no fee, but we expect you to pay expenses. If the coach lives in your back yard, there will be no expense. Expenses generally are a possible meal and gas money. If you are interested in this program, please contact me at pastchamps@cox.net. I will then forward you a list of coaches , along with their expertise, and you can make your decision and contact the coach directly. Please advise me of the coach upon confirmation of the coaching session. Remember the length of the coaching session can be a weekday night, or a day session on the weekend. That is up to you and the coach you select. Any further coaching between your quartet and the coach is up to you, and you will be responsible for any expenses or fees. Remember, the majority of our champs, who do coaching, charge no fees. We hope that you take advantage of this program, and we know it will benefit your quartet and its' members.
Thanks, and good singing.

District Spring Prelims and NE Division Convention at RenoIt's just three weekends to this dual event. If you haven't pre-registered, you can register on-site so that you won't miss out. All meetings are at Harrahs. All contests are at the Pioneer Auditorium. Below is a summary of events or you can see the Detailed Events Schedule.
Classes at RenoThere will be two tracks of classes on Friday afternoon at Reno. They'll start at 1pm and be over by 4pm to give you plenty of time to find some dinner. One track is well defined, but the second one awaits some responses from instructors. It may be Tag Singing Marathon hosted by three different leaders.
The Impromptu Quartet Contest at 3pm is always a fun time. Quartet singers arrive at 2pm to find the other parts, choose a wild quartet name, then register. At 3pm they sing one song for the specially assembled judges—the audience. Come join us for the fun.
Watch for the March 1 issue of eNews for the final list of classes.
Division Conventions
It's time to register for your division conventions and contests.
You can find all the information you need at our
Far Western District Conventions website.
Go For The GoldIn just a short 16 weeks, the Association of Far Western District Champions will be having their annual Go For the Gold show. June 19, 2010, Plummer Auditorium, 201 E. Chapman Avenue, Fullerton, California. In addition to the FWD quartets that qualify this year in Reno, there will be a surprise or two, just like last year. For just $20.00 you will see a really great show. (I sound a touch like Ed Sullivan, don't cha think?) All the proceeds from this show go to the qualifying quartets for their trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the first week of July, 2010. Please put this date on your calendar. We will advise when tickets go on sale. Hope to see you all in Reno this coming March 19th thru March 21st for the FWD International Prelims Contest. It is going to be a GREAT time. Kindest regards,
Bill Tieberg, Bari

Inquiring Minds Want To Know
How do I temporarily stop barbershop email traffic? Both the society and the district use the email address in your profile on the ebiz site. If you remove your email address from your profile, you will not be sent any messages from these two sources. Simply restore your email address when you are ready to hear from us again. Send all questions to Keith Eckhardt, FWD Webmaster, at webmaster@spebsqsafwd.org.
Heard Over The Back FenceHey, add Rich Brunner to the list of men that have been a FWD quartet champ three times. Masterpiece announces the selection of Patrick Haedtler as their new lead singer, replacing Mark Hale. Patrick is President of the Westminster chapter and was the lead singer in The Crush quartet. The Crush would like to officially announce that the new lead of The Crush will be Josh Szolomayer. Josh's pure musical tone, smart musicianship, his positive attitude and overall excitement and energy will be a great addition to The Crush. Friends of Milt Rhea will be pleased to hear that Milt is recovering nicely from a stroke on New Year's Eve. Milt and Ruby attended his chapter's installation luncheon where Milt sang with his old quartet, Four on the Richter Scale.
Keep those rumors and random data flowing to enews@spebsqsafwd.org.
