Westminster Wales AwayMy name is Lane Aikin and I am the VP of Operations for the Westminster Chorus. Our chorus is now rapidly organizing and fundraising with the hope to compete this summer for the world famous 'Pavarotti Trophy' in the Choir of the World contest in Wales, UK. The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod is a world-renowned festival of music, song and dance. Competitors from more than fifty countries come together for one week to stand side by side through music, while each evening the Pavilion plays hosts to concerts by world-class artists. The Westminster Chorus has been accepted into the Barbershop, Folk, and Men's Choral competitions. The competitions will be held for an audience of 5,000 non-barbershop choral enthusiasts and will be broadcast LIVE on the BBC!!! This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase barbershop on a global scale and perpetuate the society. But in order to make this happen, we GREATLY need monetary donations to pay for travel and lodging of our young group! This trip will simply not happen without your assistance. It's an amazing opportunity for the society we don't want to lose.

Sign Up Now for Harmony College West 2009Harmony College West will be held at the CSU East Bay campus in Hayward, CA, on August 21-23. Once again we will use the extremely popular POD coaching system for quartets. Each quartet will be coached twice in each of the following categories: Singing, Music, Performance, and Presentation. Plan on bringing recording equipment with you so that you can maximize the value of this terrific opportunity. Prices this year are $175 per quartet member and $150 per individual class student. It is a valid chapter expense to send members to Harmony College West, so talk it up with your chapter leaders ASAP. We'll be back in the two-bedroom dorms that have a kitchen and living space. Meals will be in the brand new dining commons that are adjacent to the dorms. And we'll be back to our Saturday night afterglow at the dorms. Yes there is hardly room to walk around. Yes there is lots of pizza and beverages. Yes the singing will be heard for miles. Yes it will be great fun.

Fall District ConventionThe Fall District Convention is where it all comes together. The winners of the division contests come to entertain the audience as they compete for top honors. The AFWDC puts on a terrific late night show on Friday. On Saturday night after the contests we get to hear our new district champs belt out their favs, followed by parties everywhere and lots of hallway singing. The non-competition fun starts at noon on Friday with a Harmony For Lunch Bunch and the Sacramento gang is well known for its lively version of HFLB. Then head back to the hotel for a variety of craft and fun singing classes or to attend the House of Delegates. The HOD is where district business happens and the chapter delegates take an active part in choosing new directions for the district. Now is a good time to register for the convention at the Fall District Website. You'll also find a great deal of information about the weekend and a community that has a lot of fun attractions.
Did you know that the sooner your register, the better the seats you get?
Leadership Academy (Formerly COTS)If you will be a chapter officer next year, or are thinking about it, put these dates on your calendar and plan to attend. The classes are a great way to learn about a chapter office BEFORE you jump in with both feet.
